Grove Transit Partners with Christian Services of Hattiesburg for March for Meals

Grove Transit is proud to partner with Christian Services during their March for Meals campaign. During the month of March, Grove Transit will provide a vehicle and driver Monday through Friday to help deliver meals to Hattiesburg residents.

We met Ms. Cookie Prout at a Historic Hattiesburg Downtown Association meeting and heard her speak about the March for Meals campaign.  After hearing Ms. Cookie mention that Christian Services has over 50 Hattiesburg residents on a waiting list for Meals on Wheels we knew we would be able to assist her organization.   After a  quick discussion between Dan & Suzanne Reid, their daughter, Callan, and Ms. Prout it was decided that Grove Transit would dedicate a driver and vehicle to assist in delivering meals.  It was that simple, we met that morning at a community event, and before the coffee was cold and the doughnuts were gone we had a plan in place.

Ms. Catherine Jorns, Director of Outreach at Christian Services met with us today as our driver Carolyn Banks and Suzanne Reid started on their first day delivering meals.

Among their many ministries Christian Services provides nutritious noon meals to those who are homebound and cannot provide for themselves.  Currently Christian Services has over 50 Hattiesburg residents on the waiting list to have meals brought to them.   Grove Transit encourages everyone who has the resources available to volunteer to help deliver meals.

Grove Transit Continues to "Green" our Fleet

Grove Transit recently was awarded a grant from Mississippi Propane Gas Association to convert the first of it’s wheelchair vans to propane fuel.   This new fuel source will allow our vehicles to burn cleaner, our engines will last longer and our fuel bills will reduce dramatically.   Over the next few months we hope to convert another 20 or more vans to propane.

The propane initiative is another in our attempts to provide a more environmentally friendly and economically efficient fleet to our customers.   We currently operate over a dozen Toyota Prius hybrids in our fleet.   We have a great a relationship with the folks at Hattiesburg Toyota and have purchased all of our Toyota Prius through them.   The vehicles comfortably accommodate ambulatory passengers and provide us with incredible fuel savings.

We will continue to find ways to make our fleet more environmentally friendly.
